Should I try chiropractic care before scheduling surgery for my back?

Conservative/Non-Invasive procedures should always be considered before consulting with a surgeon or having surgery.  Millions of people each year have elected to seek conservative care routes such as chiropractic and have found complete resolution and relief from their pain.

Here are the three most common causes of low back pain and treatment options available.

The most debilitating type of low back pain that many people seek surgery for are disc bulges/herniations.  This type of low back pain can range from localized pain in the low back to radiating sharp stabbing pain down the leg and into the feet or anywhere in between.    Conservative management of this type of pain can range from repetitious home self treatment such as The McKenzie assessment and treatment method, to more passive procedures such as spinal decompression, the use of a flexion-distraction table, or the chiropractic adjustment.

Another cause of low back pain is what chiropractors term the subluxation or joint fixation.  This pain can range from local dull pain to stabbing type pain during certain motions. Conservative management for this will range from passive joint mobilization to the chiropractic adjustment depending on the severity of the joint fixation.  Complimentary treatments that should coincide with the passive mobilization/adjustments and dynamic stabilization exercises, myofascial release, and massage therapy.

A less common cause of low back pain is what is termed adherent nerve root, meaning that the nerve is adhered or stuck to the underlying anatomy that surrounds the entire length of the nervous structure. Treatment for these types of conditions should include stretching activities, myofascial release, and nerve flossing techniques.
